Looking to Keep Your iPhone Safe and Clean? This Guide Can Help

Did you know that Mobile phones have 18 times more bacteria than a typical flush handle you use in the bathroom? That’s 25,127 germs per square inch, to be exact, explains the Seattle Times. Unfortunately, although this isn’t news, very few people know how to keep their devices clean.

We decided to let you in on some practical tips on keeping the phones pristine clean, including the kind of screen protectors you can use and the best phone cases currently on the market. Products such as these will keep the device safe from damage.

Why Should You Keep the Phone Clean?

The number of smartphone users in 2021 will be well over 6 billion. And it’s expected to keep growing by a couple of hundred million in the following years. Data shows that the countries with the most significant number of smartphone users are the United States, India, and China.

According to a 2021 survey, almost 50% of respondents stated they spent an average of 5 to 6 hours on their phones daily. An additional 22% said they spent 3 to 4 hours a day. Yet, most of us don’t give a second thought to where we’ve been putting the phones.

We take them with us on our morning commute to the doctor’s office, work, bathroom, and dinner table. What people fail to notice is that germs only keep piling up. And those germs often end up in our mouths, nose, skin, eyes, and ears. What you need is a practical cleaning strategy.

How to Keep Your Phone Germ Free?

Focusing on phone hygiene is now more critical than ever. Given the current pandemic, a lot of people have made their health a top priority. Before cleaning the device, make sure to unplug it from the charger and take off the case. Next, choose the preferred option for cleaning.

For example, you can use a disinfectant wipe with 70% alcohol. But Apple suggests you avoid bleach. If you are in the mood for a more straightforward solution, then a lint-free cloth will do. Follow the cleaning steps below:

Tip: You can use a cleaner designed for displays and screens. But don’t spray it directly on the screen. It can drip into the opening of the phone, which can damage the smartphone.

How Often Should You Sanitize Your Phone?

It’s a good idea to clean the phone at least once a day. Although you can use disinfectant wipes on most electronic gadgets, the wipes that contain alcohol, vinegar, or bleach, can damage the phone screen. In addition, the more you use them, the sooner they will wear down the product’s protective coating. So, please don’t overdo it with these wipes.

What Kind of Screen Protector Should I Go for?

Although the phone screen has gotten more resilient since the days of the iPod, you still need a protective surface that will keep the scratches at bay. Screen protectors don’t provide ultimate protection, but they can still keep the screen in a pristine condition as much as possible.

The best options on the market are often between 7-8 on the Mohs scale. While the cheapest alternatives are PET screen protectors, they are very thin, stiff, and light and less likely to affect the overall appearance of the phone. The TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a more flexible plastic but much harder to install. It also creates an “orange peel” glare on the screen.

For tougher protection, people are opting for tempered glass. These protectors come in different varieties. Although they don’t feature the self-healing capabilities of TPU, their toughness and drop-protection make them very popular. Lastly, you have the Nano Liquid screen protector.

It might have gained some momentum. But, it is unlikely that swabbing a liquid solution on your screen will buff up its durability. If you need solid impact protection, then a case will be your best bet. Screen protectors solely focus on the screen, while the case ensures wider coverage.
